How to Use CBD Wax

Perhaps you’ve grown used to seeing CBD oils, gummies, and topicals on store shelves, but what about CBD wax? Also known as “dab,” CBD wax is a type of CBD concentrate. It can be found in several consistencies, including shatter, crumble, and budder. Each consistency has unique characteristics and can be enjoyed in a variety of ways, but if you’re currently baffled by it, don’t worry! You’re not alone. Scroll down to learn how to use CBD wax.

Getting Started with CBD Wax

To create CBD wax, manufacturers extract cannabidiol (CBD) from the hemp plant and heat it until it forms a wax-like, semi-viscous consistency. Its color typically resembles honey or amber.

Different heating processes are used to create different types of CBD wax. Some of the most popular forms of CBD wax include the following:

  • Budder: Smooth, creamy, and almost fluffy, CBD budder is formed by heating the CBD extract to a high temperature and using air pressure to smooth and fluff up the texture. Its consistency resembles butter, hence the name.
  • Crumble: Created through a similar process to budder, CBD crumble has a more crumbly texture resembling feta cheese. It uses pre-purged CBD oil with a higher moisture content and more viscosity.
  • Shatter: A glass-like, brittle wax that can easily be broken or shattered, CBD shatter is formed by heating the extract into a gooey liquid, cooling it down, and allowing it to harden. It’s typically translucent and either clear or amber in color. Some say it resembles rock candy.
  • Live Resin: Because it’s created from “live” plants that have been flash-frozen, as opposed to dried or cured, CBD live resin retains a more natural flavor. The production also helps preserve more terpenes and cannabinoids, making this a sought-after CBD wax. It has a runny consistency and is usually either white or pale yellow.

Each type of CBD wax has unique characteristics and advantages, so explore them to find the one that best suits you. Keep in mind that many CBD wax products won’t include the term “wax” on the label. Instead, they’ll use the term that describes its consistency: shatter, budder, crumble, etc.

Exploring How to Use CBD Wax

Many people prefer CBD wax because it’s a purified, potent product that allows you to enjoy the benefits of CBD while ingesting less volume. It’s also conveniently sized, portable, and fast-acting. It can be consumed in a variety of ways:

  • Dabbing: Dabbing, along with vaping, is the most popular method of consuming CBD wax. A “dab” of wax is placed on a heat source, typically a “dab rig,” and then heated to produce vapors, which are inhaled by the user. Unlike smoking, dabbing doesn’t burn the wax; it only heats it enough to vaporize the CBD.
  • Vaping: Vaping is very similar to dabbing, but the dab rig is replaced by a vape pen, e-cigarette, glass pipe, or other vaporizer. It’s quick, easy, approachable, and doesn’t require special equipment.
  • Cooking: You can cook CBD wax into savory dishes or baked goods. To help it assimilate into the other ingredients, it’s recommended that you combine it with a fat like butter, oil, milk, or cream. Depending on the type of wax, you will need to melt, powder, or crumble it before incorporating it into the fat.
